About Nisser Tales

Nisser Tales is a story world shaped by kindness, craft, and quiet magic.

It is a place where small hands matter.
Where care is a form of strength.
Where light is not loud—but steady, patient, and earned.

The stories are inspired by Norwegian folklore, forests and fjords, and the belief that gentleness can change things when force cannot.

What Is a Nisse?

In old stories, a nisse is a small guardian spirit—often unseen, sometimes mischievous, always watching.

In Nisser Tales, nisser are keepers.

They tend light.
They protect balance.
They notice what humans overlook.

Some guard play. Some guard craft. Some guard water, wind, hearth, or memory.
Each carries a piece of the Light—and together, they keep the world from tipping too far out of tune.

The Lights

The Lights are not objects.
They are ways of being.

Kindness. Expression. Harmony. Memory. Guidance. Vision.

Each Light awakens when someone listens closely enough—to the land, to another, or to themselves.

Why These Stories Exist

Nisser Tales was created for readers who feel deeply, move thoughtfully, and believe that care matters.

These stories are for:

  • children learning how to be in the world

  • adults who never forgot how

  • anyone who needs permission to slow down

They are not about heroes who conquer.
They are about people—and nisser—who stay.

About the Creator

Nisser Tales is written and illustrated by Kristin, who believes that stories should feel like coming home.

Her work is shaped by:

  • a love of folklore and language

  • a respect for craft and repetition

  • and a lifelong habit of noticing small things

Each illustration is drawn by hand.
Each story is built with care.
Nothing here is rushed.

An Invitation

If you’ve found your way here, you’re already welcome.

Sit a while.
Meet the nisser.
Visit Bestemor’s table.

And if something feels familiar—
if a quiet moment suddenly makes sense—

That means the Light noticed you too.

Leave a Note

Have a question, a thought, or a quiet hello? You’re welcome to leave a note here. Some messages are read by nisser. Others need a human hand. Every note is important and read with care—but replies may take a little time. Good things here are never rushed.

“Nothing meant to last is ever hurried,”
—Tidvar, Keeper of Time
