Dag

Dag is never far from where something sweet has been left unattended.

He moves quietly—until the plate is lighter and the crumbs give him away. Anne has learned that if cookies are forgotten on the table, they are not forgotten for long. Dag will have found them, taken one (or two), and left behind the smallest of thank yous—perhaps an acorn, placed carefully where the plate once was full.

Dag is the Elder of the Ruby Council.

He carries both warmth and wisdom in equal measure, though he rarely raises his voice to share either. The others look to him not because he commands attention, but because he has already seen what they are only just beginning to notice.

Dag believes that the world reveals itself best to those who are willing to wait.

He reminds the Ruby nisser to observe before they act, to listen before they speak, and to understand before they decide. Where others may rush forward, Dag pauses—watching, considering, and choosing his steps with quiet care.

And yet, for all his wisdom, he has never quite learned to resist a well-made cookie.

If something goes missing from the table…
If crumbs appear where none were before…
If a small gift is left in quiet gratitude…

That will be Dag.
