The Ninth
Every council is formed of nine nisser, each entrusted with protecting the Light they serve and the truths it carries into the world.
For the Amber Council, those truths are warmth, belonging, memory, kindness, and the quiet ties that make a house become a home.
In old Nordic folklore, nine is a sacred and recurring number—woven through stories, journeys, worlds, and wisdom. It is said to represent completeness, endurance, and the unseen threads that bind all things together. Again and again, the old tales return to nine: nine nights, nine worlds, nine steps, nine keepers.
So too does every council of the Lights hold nine nisser.
No more.
No less.
And yet…sometimes not every nisse reveals themselves all at once.
Some remain hidden a little longer.
Watching quietly.
Waiting patiently.
Keeping close to the Light until the moment is right.
For even when unseen, the ninth is never truly absent.
If a lantern glows softly beside the hearth…
If a familiar warmth lingers though no footsteps were heard…
If a home feels complete even when someone seems missing…
The ninth may already be near.
